How can I increase or improve the flow from my Water Butt Pump?
There could be a few reasons. Please check the below:
1. It is important that the pump is raised off the bottom of the water butt, or suspended on a rope, so debris from the bottom of the water butt does not enter the pump. We recommend regularly cleaning the water butt to ensure that debris does not collect in it.
2. There are two filters in the pump that may require cleaning; the blue filter is located in the bottom of the pump. To access this, twist off the yellow grill at the bottom and remove the blue mesh filter, clean thoroughly and replace. Also, remove the small wire filter from the connector on the top of the pump, and clean thoroughly, as this can get blocked with dirty rain water. This filter can be removed if it is constantly blocking, as long as you are not using micro irrigation equipment.
3. For optimal performance the pump needs to be primed. To do this, take off the hose connector from the top and slowly lower the pump into the water until the water level is just under the outlet. Wait until the water level inside the pump is the same as outside the pump. Now attach the outlet and hose, and lower the pump fully into the water. The pump should now run correctly.
Is the water butt treatment harmful to wildlife?
The water butt treatment is a safe non-toxic biological treatment that uses natural plant extracts, so it will not harm wildlife provided it is diluted as directed in the instructions.
What is ratio for the water butt treatment?
The ratio should be 25ml per 200L
Can this pump be used outside of the Water Butt?
No, this is a submersible pump.
Can the pump be kept in the water butt permanently?
You can keep the pump in the water butt, however we do recommend removing it and storing it away during frosty months.
Is this pump suitable for emptying a jacuzzi or a small pool?
This is a rain water recovery pump. The water temperature must not exceed 35°c.
As stated in the instructions under current standards submersible pumps must not be used in swimming pools.Important: This pump is not suitable for evacuating salt water, corrosive products, inflammable, explosive or foodstuffs.
How shallow can the water be for this pump to still work?
If the water but is full when you install the pump (so that it gets primed properly) then the water can be up to 25mm from the bottom of the pump. Its best to raise the pump on something like a couple of bricks anyway so that it doesn't suck up debris from the bottom of the water butt.
