Can I use the Auto Reel when folded against wall?
The Auto Reel can be used when folded against a wall and can be used around corners. It is recommended to use the Universal Hose Guide to prevent the hose from rubbing on the wall and damaging the hosepipe.
What size padlock do I need to lock this to the bracket?
Either a 1.5 inch or 2 inch long shank padlock is ideal.
What is the switch at side of the reel for?
This is the integrated child lock. This convenient lock prevents the hose from being pulled out by children, ensuring the hose is only pulled out when needed.
What are the dimensions? (excluding packaging)

Can the hose be locked at any point?
The hose will lock at any point that you need it to. Once the hose is at the desired length, pull on the hose then release. The return action then locks the hose in position.
Can this be used with a sprinkler?
The Auto Reel can be used with all Hozelock Sprinklers.
Can this be fitted onto a wooden fence or fence post?
It is recommended that the Auto Reel is fixed to a location that is structurally sound. If fixing to a post, please ensure it is of a good structural nature, with good support at the base. Please note, the screws provided are for use when fixing into a brick wall. Other, more suitable, hardware should be sought fo fixing Auto Reel to a wooden post.
How long is the hosepipe from the tap to where it can be hung?
The Auto Reel comes with a 2 metre long feeder hose.
Can the feeder hose be extended?
You can purchase another feeder hose to extend the length. Alternatively you can affix another bracket to the new location and transfer your Auto Reel between the two locations. You can purchase these on the Hozelock Spares site.
Is it possible to buy a replacement hose without having to buy the whole unit again?
Unfortunately it is not possible to replace the hose in the Auto Reel.
The hose won’t stop when pulling it, what should I do?
If the Auto Reel is failing to lock when the hose is pulled out, there are a few suggestions that you can try in order to get this up and running again:
1. Pull out the hose to the desired length, and then pull again to hear a series of clicks. Once it has clicked for the third time, release the hose slightly and it should then lock into place. When you are ready for the hose to re-wind, pull it again slightly and you will hear another click which will cause the hose to re-wind into the casing.
2. Fully extend the hose to ensure there are no kinks or tangles inside the Auto Reel.
3. When the hose is fully extended, take the last section of the hose, near the letterbox mouth, and raise it upwards to a 75 degree angle. Give it a sharp pull, and this should jumpstart the tension spring.
Unfortunately we do not provide instructions for disassembling the Auto Reel, due to the large metal spring inside that is held under high tension.
If the suggestions above do not work, the Auto Reel could be faulty. Please contact consumer services by emailing support@hozelock.zendesk.com. Please ensure you have your original proof of purchase available.
Is it possible to empty the hose so that it's easier to store?
To empty the hose, turn the tap off, pull out the hose and open the hose nozzle to empty excess water - letting the water flow through.
Why is my hose not pulling out of the Auto Reel?
Ensure that the locking lever is off. See this video to find out what the locking lever does: https://vimeo.com/454043799
If it is off, and the hose still isn't pulling, the Auto Reel could be faulty. Please contact consumer services by emailing support@hozelock.zendesk.com. Please ensure you have your original proof of purchase available.
Why does the Auto Reel not retract all the time?
We recommend pulling out all the hose. Clean any excess debris from the outside of the hose such as sand and dirt with a damp cloth. Now, let the hose retract slowly by walking back to the reel holding the end stop. This often allows the hose to layer properly again. When rewinding the hose always walk the hose back to the reel. Never let the hose fly back on its own. Not only is this dangerous it can cause irreparable damage to the reel.
The spring inside has broken, the hose keeps rewinding. How can this be fixed?
Should the Auto Reel mechanism become faulty, even outside of the warranty period do not attempt to repair it or take it apart. Please contact consumer services by emailing support@hozelock.zendesk.com for assistance.
Can you fit a longer hose to this unit?
You can attach another hose to the Auto Reel Hose, when using but you won't be able to rewind it back into the Reel. You must disconnect it before rewinding the hose back into the reel.
The hose keeps rewinding and won’t lock into position. Can it be fixed?
1. The first thing we always advise is to check that the manual lock has not been accidentally engaged.
2. Pull out the hose to the desired length, and then pull again to hear a series of clicks. Once it has clicked for the third time, release the hose slightly and it should then lock into place. When you are ready for the hose to re-wind, pull it again slightly and you will hear another click which will cause the hose to re-wind into the Auto Reel.
3. Fully extend the hose to ensure there are no kinks or tangles inside the Auto Reel.
4. When the hose is fully extended, take the last section of the hose, near the letterbox mouth, and raise it upwards to a 75 degree angle. Give it a sharp pull, and this should jumpstart the tension spring.
5. When re-winding the hose we would recommend that the feeder hose is disconnected from the tap, and no water is left remaining in the main hose, as this can cause the hose to take up more space in the Auto Reel which will cause some of the hose to stay outside of the casing.
If the above options do not work, the Auto Reel could be faulty. Please contact consumer services by emailing support@hozelock.zendesk.com. Please ensure you have your original proof of purchase available.
Can the hose be changed if required?
No. If you want a Reel where you can change the hose, you would need to purchase an open reel.
If the hose becomes damaged, under no circumstances should you attempt to repair it. Please contact consumer services by emailing support@hozelock.zendesk.com. Please ensure you have your original proof of purchase available.
Can it be used without fixing to the wall?
It is not recommended. However, if you want to water different areas of your garden, you can purchase another bracket so that you can move your Auto Reel. Brackets can be purchased on the Hozelock Spares website. Please note, there are three brackets available dependent on the model you own.
Can I keep this out throughout Winter?
No. We strongly advise storing the Auto Reel indoors unless actually being used. All of our wall mounted products are easy to remove from the wall and have park points to attach the inlet and outlet hoses to, this helps prevent water from leaking out of the reel. Please note that damage from frost will invalidate the guarantee.
How do you get it off the bracket?
Using the handle on top of the Auto Reel, simply lift the reel off the bracket. Watch this quick video to show you how to do it if you get stuck: https://vimeo.com/454043799
Can it be lifted off the wall when in use?
No. The Auto Reel must be secure on the bracket whilst in use. There is a handle on top of the reel to lift it off when not in use.
Does this come already assembled?
The Auto reel comes fully assembled, however you will need to connect the Feeder Hose to the inlet, and Hose End Connectors to the Feeder Hose.
Can the Auto Reel be locked into position against the wall?
Due to its design, the Auto Reel cannot be locked into position against the wall.
Is it normal to have a couple of metres of hose hanging out of the Auto Reel?
It is normal for a couple metres to stick out when in use as when the hose still has water in it, as it takes up more space in the casing. An easy way to assess this, is to detach the feeder hose or turn off the tap, fully extend the hose, and open the nozzle or use the gun to drain it, then allow the hose to retract back. If the hose still does not retract fully, the Auto Reel could be faulty. Please contact consumer services by emailing support@hozelock.zendesk.com. Please ensure you have your original proof of purchase available.
Where can I find the fittings and attachments that come included?
The loose parts for these reels are kept inside the wall bracket.
Can Auto Reel be used with a pressure washer?
Yes.
Can you buy the bracket separately?
Brackets can be purchased on the Hozelock Spares website. Please note, there are three brackets available dependent on the model you own.
